Yesterday I talked about the difference between Ideas and Creativity, today I want to focus on Creativity vs. Innovation. Creativity is about identifying and uniting unique ideas into a cohesive concept that can solve a problem. Innovation is about putting that concept into action. The planning, implementation and activation of the big idea.
You may not realize there is a difference between Ideas and Creativity, but there is. Ideas are the seemingly random flashes of inspiration and genius. Creativity is finding the valuable links between those ideas and connecting them to forge a chain that is greater than the sum of its parts.
I think the thing that frustrates most people about the process of coming up with ideas is that they believe in a singular moment of creative clarity.
