NARI : Before & After

NARI : Before & After

Don The Idea Guy

I was invited to speak to the Central Ohio chapter of NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry), and in preparation I had the opportunity to attend their annual awards ceremony last December. One of the speakers at that event was their national president, Paul Zuch. A quote from Paul’s time at the podium immediately cut-through the clutter to tell me exactly what the message of my upcoming presentation to this group should focus upon…

“Every project includes a before and after transformation that we can see develop under our direction.”
~ Paul J. Zuch
National NARI President

Before & After
Could it be more crystal clear?

It doesn’t matter what business was like last year.
It doesn’t matter what your day was like yesterday.
It doesn’t matter what traffic was like on your way into work was like this morning.

All of that was Before.
This is After.

It doesn’t matter that all you needed in the past was an ad in the Yellow Pages.
It doesn’t matter that you have many more competitors than you formerly had.
It doesn’t matter that you’re just getting started in social media.

All of that was Before.
This is After.

There were in excess of 80 members and guests who had originally RSVP’d for the event at which I would speak. As luck would have it, the city of Columbus had snow and ice dumped on it for about 8 continuous hours prior to the time of the meeting. Approximately 25-30 stalwart attendees braved the weather to attend.

Rather than focus on newish media like Facebook and Twitter (because those are soooo Before) I chose to share some websites and online resources that few (if any) in their group had heard of yet (they qualify as After.)

Since many of their group were prevented from attending because of the weather (and since time was short and I went through a lot of the slides like a shot), I thought it might be helpful to post my slide deck here, complete with links to all of the online resources I mentioned in my presentation.

Post any questions or comments below.
After you have a chance to review the content.

Alternative business ideas for Job Board sites

I recently used a tool called JobBoardly to create a job board specifically for listing employment opportunities within the retail industry. It was a fun and interesting project that made me realize that a job board tool is essentially a matchmaking platform that connects opportunities with seekers. This means its basic framework can be adapted […]

Hot Projects from Cool Friends

It’s like 91 degrees outside right now in Columbus, Ohio as I sit at my desk and work on this post. My Amazon Alexa sitting behind me on the shelf keeps pinging me with “Severe Weather” notifications because of local air quality alerts. This seems like the perfect time to share some of the hot […]
