KickStart Your Week : Jay Kemp

Don The Idea Guy

radio-wow-logo01This week my co-host Tomas Lydahl and I had the pleasure of sitting down with Jay Kemp, Chief of Partnerships for Sydney Australia-based O2 Speakers Management.  Tomas and I both had the opportunity to work with Jay while he was part of the Gitomer Certified Speakers team, and it was a blast to catch up with him in this interview and hear about what he’s been up to in his new role.

Jay has 19 years experience in the professional speaking industry.  He was one of the original employees at International Speakers Bureau in Dallas, Texas, where he helped grow the company from a staff of three to more than 50 employees.  At ISB he worked with Fortune 500 companies all over the world to find the best speakers and entertainers for their annual events.

After leaving ISB, Jay went to work for best-selling author, and one of the world’s leading experts in selling, Jeffrey Gitomer.  With Jeffrey, Jay learned to appreciate the life of a professional speaker and the lengths they go through to reach out to their audiences and help them grow personally and professionally.

Now with O2 Speakers, Jay is responsible for operations and the management of their speakers in the Northern Hemisphere.    O2 Speakers represents some of the world’s greatest leaders, communicators and achievers. The speakers they represent are the most outstanding thought leaders in their generation, each continuing to make an impact due to their passion, experiences or downright audacious insights into the world.

Here with some audacious insights of his own is… JAY KEMP!

Jay’s Hot Tips

2. If you’re a pro and want to work with a bureau, when should you make the leap. When you have a good background of work and experience under your belt, have marketing materials. Not if you go to a bureau, it’s WHEN you go. You get a first impressions and it’s hard to recover from a bad impressions.

3. Bureau doesn’t make you a better speaker. They make you a more successful speaker. Don’t expect overnight success.

The Ugly Back

Everyone goes to the museum to admire the pretty fronts of artistic tapestries, but the ugly backs face the wall and are rarely on display. My wife decided she wanted to host a big family Thanksgiving this year. While we were in the process of cleaning up the house and putting our (my) clutter. Hapy […]

My Three Words for 2022

Several years ago I started choosing an annual trio of words to help me stay on track with my goals, focus my actions, and guide my decision making. I copied the practice from Chris Brogan and you can click on that link in his name to visit Chris’ page to read about how he chooses […]

Ideas, Insight

Want hot ideas? Let the tap run.

I’ve written in the past about how I come up with some many good ideas (spoiler alert: it’s because I also come up with so many bad ideas). I’ve also shared how important it is to throw away the first dozen or so ideas you come up with because they’re not going to be especially […]
