Doing Cool Stuff During The COVID Crisis

Don The Idea Guy

Are you one of the people impacted by the Coronavirus/COVID-19 outbreak? Are you lucky enough to be working from home or was your employment affected by the economic shutdowns taking place around the world.

In times where your attitude and positive outlook are tested it is easy for your creativity to take a hit. Your ability to innovate is directly affected by whether you’re feeling positive or negative about your present and future. No one is going to blame you for feeling down these days, but if you let the current situation keep you, you have no one to blame for yourself.

This virus will be contained eventually (you believe that, right?).
There are far too many bright minds teaming up to solve this problem, so it will happen (we just don’t know when).

I am fortunate enough to have some pretty creative friends, and I thought you might be inspired to hear what just a few of them are doing in trying to stay creative, positive, and profitable during the stay-at-home orders in their cities, states, and countries.

Lee Launches
I first met Lee when he was promoting his video production services using the name MrExplainer. Lee lives and works as a freelancer in England, and while he’s perfectly used to working remotely on a daily basis, many of his clients were impacted by the virus outbreak which in turn impacted his business.

Instead of getting depressed about the situation, Lee decided to see if he could push his creativity and productivity into overdrive by releasing a new product into the world every. single. day.

Lee is offering things like a YouTube Branding Kit, Custom Zoom Backgrounds, and other useful tools for anyone who works or promotes themselves online.

To see some of the other items Lee has been creating (or if you want to be notified of new product Lee creates, visit him online here (and why not buy him a coffee to support his efforts?).

Michael Kent: Comic, Magician, Smartass
When a guy makes his living by performing in front of live audiences, having a virtually nationwide ban of events can put a hurt on your business.

I’ve known Michael for many years and know just how creative he is, but even I was blown away with how quickly he bounced back by offering Virtual Magic Shows in place of his live events. The virtual shows allows him to assist businesses who had live events planned and still need to get together with their groups in a virtual environment using web conferencing tools. Michael customized his show to work on a digital screen and got to work booking new business. Soon after I saw several other magicians I know follow his lead and start moving their events online.

But Michael didn’t stop with the first success, he kept thinking about what he could do next. With so many people moving their meeting to the Zoom web conference platform (and with Michael being such a smartass), he created an uniquely original service call Comedy Zoom Bombs where for a reasonable fee he would dial into a customer’s Zoom meeting and “crash the party” by using his improvisational comedy skills to add a little excitement to the suddenly overwhelming number of Zoom meetings we have all started attending recently.

You can book a Comedy Zoom Bomb or learn more about the service on Michael Kent’s website.

Did these stories inspire you to spend your quarantine time a little more creatively?

Let me know if you’d like to hear about more examples about how people are using their time at home to be positive and productive, or if you have story you’d like to share with me about the cool stuff you (or someone you know) is doing during the COVID-19 quarantine.

Alternative business ideas for Job Board sites

I recently used a tool called JobBoardly to create a job board specifically for listing employment opportunities within the retail industry. It was a fun and interesting project that made me realize that a job board tool is essentially a matchmaking platform that connects opportunities with seekers. This means its basic framework can be adapted […]

Hot Projects from Cool Friends

It’s like 91 degrees outside right now in Columbus, Ohio as I sit at my desk and work on this post. My Amazon Alexa sitting behind me on the shelf keeps pinging me with “Severe Weather” notifications because of local air quality alerts. This seems like the perfect time to share some of the hot […]
